Visiting Egypt in May

The hot weather has well and truly arrived in May, with highs of over 30C in Cairo, and temperatures pushing into the high 30Cs in Luxor and Aswan, as well as across Upper Egypt. Evenings and nights are warm too, rarely dropping much below 20C. It’s shoulder season now, so the crowds are starting to thin out after the busiest months, although you may find local tourist numbers growing at the Red Sea resorts. Sandstorms (also called the Khamsin wind, or khamseen) may appear during May, although it’s less likely this month than April and is unlikely to cause major disruption.
