Visiting Egypt in July

The worst of the summer heat has arrived by July, hitting the high 30Cs in much of the north and rising above 40C in the south. The dry heat and lack of humidity can make it easier to tolerate, so if you’re happy to plan your days around the high temperatures, you’ll have a lot of the ancient sites practically to yourself. Many open early and close late, so you don’t have to sightsee in the scorching sun – instead plan to embrace the shade, the pool or the air-con for the hottest part of the afternoon. If you’re taking a Nile cruise, the breezes from the water can also help it feel a little cooler, but with temperatures of around 25C overnight, it never gets cool.
