Visiting Egypt in January
Climate and weather guide
January
The coldest month of the year, you can still expect daytime temperatures to top 20C with plenty of sunshine and virtually no rain, especially once you travel south towards Upper Egypt. Perfect for escaping the freezing temperatures of the UK, it can still be cool overnight, and there’s a chance of showers in Cairo and rain in Alexandria. The water temperature at the Red Sea is a pleasantly warm 20C if you’re hoping to snorkel or dive after your trip. The winter sun does tempt lots of other travellers, so it’s usually busy, especially around the New Year period.
