Day 1 – Arrival in Alexandria

This morning, you’ll leave Cairo behind and travel to the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, a journey of around 3.5 hours. Alexandria feels different to the rest of Egypt. This is where ancient history meets sea views, and the city has a more laid-back coastal atmosphere. Once one of the greatest cities of the ancient world, Alexandria is lively, full of character and a place where many Egyptians from Cairo choose as their seaside escape.  You’ll stay in a comfortable hotel with historical character, which is the perfect base for soaking up the city’s unique mix of culture and coastal life.

Day 2 – Alexandria city tour

Today, you will discover some of Alexandria’s most fascinating sights, and uncover the layers of history hidden throughout the city with a local guide. During a half-day tour, you’ll visit the Catacombs of Kom ash-Shuqqafa, the largest known Roman burial site in Egypt. Heading underground, you’ll find a maze of chambers where Egyptian, Greek and Roman influences blend together in a fascinating way. Next, you’ll visit the Roman amphitheatre at Kom al-Dikka, one of Alexandria’s best preserved archaeological sites. Once used for performances and gatherings, it offers a glimpse into the city’s Roman past.

In the afternoon, we recommend visiting the striking Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandra and one of the city’s architectural highlights. Built with UNESCO support, it’s a huge space that combines bold contemporary design with millions of books spread across several libraries.
