Family accommodation

Lodges and hotels hand-picked for families

The places you sleep make a huge difference to your holiday, and this is even truer when travelling with children. If you’re not staying somewhere where kids feel comfortable and welcome then it can put a real downer on things. Fortunately, Costa Rica is blessed with some wonderful lodges and hotels that are ideal for families, as well as warm hospitality that’s sure to make your family feel right at home.

Our family travel team spend a lot of time seeking out accommodation that’s ideally suited to cater for families – think swimming pools, jungle locations, family rooms and hosts that pay attention to those little details that kids love.

How it works

We work with a number of different hotels and lodges in each location, each personally visited and chosen for their comfort, character, location and facilities. This gives us flexibility, improves availability during busy seasons, and means we can offer upgrades or tailor things more specifically to your family.

Our accommodation is small-scale and locally owned, so no big chain hotels but lots of warmth and personality.

Your travel specialist will talk you through everything and, unless you have specific requests, we’ll book you in at our favourite available lodges and hotels.

Here’s what to expect from your Rickshaw Family accommodation.

Standard accommodation

Most of our Costa Rica family accommodation fits into our standard category. We value comfort and character over star ratings, but these properties would usually be 3* or sometimes 4*.

Examples include a jungle lodge in the heart of Tortuguero National Park, a colourful beach hotel seconds from the Caribbean in Cahuita, and a cloudforest hideaway on the edge of the town in Monteverde.

In-style & special stay accommodation

If it’s a special occasion or you just fancy treating your family to a little more luxury, your travel specialist can arrange a few upgrades during your Costa Rica family holiday. There are also some accommodation options which, while they may not be “luxury”, are special in their own unique way.

Like the idea of staying in a treehouse, or an observatory with epic views of the Arenal volcano? Or perhaps you’d like to end your holiday with an extra-nice beach hotel?

Simple accommodation

Sometimes the location and experience of a place makes it well worth “roughing it” for a night or two, and often these are the parts of your holiday that the kids will remember most of all.

Speak to your travel specialist about these unique experiences, which include homestays with local “Tico” communities and our unique off-grid camping stay on remote Isla Venado.

Tailoring your holiday

When planning your family holiday, your travel specialist will talk you through the places you’ll stay and will be happy to request alternatives and upgrades to suit your family’s needs.
