During our trips, you’ll get the chance to interact with local people, get immersed in communities or stay somewhere that gives back to the area you’re visiting. In our Yak Herders and Nomadic Villages trip, you’ll have the chance to visit remote areas of China where a mix of Tibetan, Hui Muslims, and Han Chinese cultures co-exist. Staying in local guesthouses, eating at small restaurants and learning about cultures and traditions offers a two-way exchange, that’s rewarding for both you and the people you meet.

Wherever we can we try to book small-scale, locally run accommodation to add some authentic charm to your trip. As is the nature of China, there are some government owned hotels and in some cities there isn’t as much choice, but wherever possible we will try to arrange accommodation with local flavour which benefits the local community. From courtyard hotels in the traditional hutongs of Beijing to retreats overlooking rice paddies in Yangshuo there’s some real gems during our trips.
