Honeymoon in Borneo
If you’re looking for a honeymoon that’s a little different, Borneo is a brilliant choice. Spend your days exploring ancient rainforest, spotting orangutans and proboscis monkeys from a jungle boat, then slow things down on a secluded tropical island. With a mix of wildlife, local culture, jungle stays and beautiful beaches, Borneo gives you plenty of opportunities to share something special together.
A Borneo honeymoon is ideal if you want more than a week on the beach. You’ll share wildlife encounters, jungle experiences and local discoveries before ending with some well-earned time beside the sea. And because our holidays are tailor-made, we can adjust the balance of wildlife, culture, relaxation and romance to create a honeymoon that feels completely yours.

Start your honeymoon in Kota Kinabalu
Begin your Borneo honeymoon in Kota Kinabalu, where bustling markets, colourful food stalls and a mix of cultures give you a gentle introduction to the island. Wander through the city at your own pace, browse the local markets or try your hand at a traditional cookery class together. With Mount Kinabalu providing an impressive backdrop, it’s a relaxed way to start your trip.
Into the jungle: orangutans and river safaris
Next, swap the city for the rainforest. At the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, you can watch these incredible great apes swinging through the trees before heading deeper into the jungle. From here, cruise along the Kinabatangan River, keeping watch for proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, colourful birds and other wildlife along the riverbanks. Staying in a riverside jungle lodge adds to the experience, with boat safaris offering a chance to see the forest from a completely different perspective

Finish your honeymoon on a tropical island
After your jungle adventures, slow things down with a few days on one of Borneo’s beautiful islands. Lankayan Island, off the coast of Sandakan, has a wonderfully secluded, castaway feel. Stay in a beachfront bungalow, snorkel in crystal-clear waters and keep an eye out for colourful fish and sea turtles. If you time your trip right, you may even see turtles nesting or hatchlings making their way to the sea.
For a more accessible island escape, Gaya Island is just a short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu. Covered in tropical rainforest and fringed by sandy beaches, it’s a lovely place to unwind together. Spend your days snorkelling, kayaking, wandering through the jungle or simply finding a quiet spot on the beach. Whichever island you choose, it’s the perfect way to round off a honeymoon filled with rainforest, wildlife and unforgettable experiences.
