Your day-by-day itinerary
Trang - Ko Hai Island
You’ll arrive in Trang either by overnight sleeper train or by plane. Either way you’ll be picked up and transferred to the pier just outside Trang where you’ll take the ferry to Ko Hai Island (ferry included). The crossing takes about 40 minutes. On Ko Hai Island you’ll stay in charming, comfortable beach hut in traditional Thai style. The beach huts have their own private veranda and are beautifully located near a long, wideswept beach, one of the few places on the island where you can swim straight out onto the coral reefs.
Today is free for you to spend as you wish. You can rent a snorkel and spend the day discovering the amazing underwater world. The islands of the Trang archipelago haven’t been discovered by mass tourism yet, which means the coral here is largely intact and unspoilt. You’ll be amazed at the spectacular marine life just below the waters. Swimming among the brightly coloured fish in such peaceful surroundings is a really great experience. The water temperature is around 27°C.
Today, it’s time to say goodbye to your little tropical paradise as you buy your own ticket and board the ferry back to the pier on the mainland. From here you can catch the bus or take a taxi back to Trang. Many travellers plan this bite sized tour at the end of their Thailand trip, in which case you can take a domestic flight, or the overnight train back to Bangkok, and depending on your flight time, catch your connecting flight back home.
The best time of year to visit Ko Hai is between November and May. If you’re travelling outside this period you might be better off staying on the east coast of Thailand.
