Hike Through the Hills of Ella
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrive in Ella
Ella is a popular small town nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country, with plenty of places to eat and a buzzy, welcoming atmosphere. All around Ella you’ll find tea plantations, temples, waterfalls and green hills. To get here, you’ll drive through the beautiful hilly countryside and pass under the famous railway bridge before finally reaching your destination.
On arrival to Ella, you’ll check into your hotel, located high in the hills, offering a stunning view for you all to look out on. The hotel also has a swimming pool, so after your day of exploring you can relax in the pool looking out at the direct views of Ella Gap whilst the kids take a splash.
Day 2 – Exploring the countryside
You’ll find western and traditional Sri Lankan breakfast options at your hotel, so the kids will be sure to find something they like. It’s totally up to you where you’d like to go today. We recommend venturing out on foot to explore; the area is full of bright green tea plantations, remote villages and hidden waterfalls. You can take the small hike to Little Adam’s Peak. The walk can be quite hot and there are many steps, but it’s easy to do with children. You’ll determine your own pace but the walk will take around 2 hours with impressive views of tea fields and valleys on both sides. We’ll also arrange for you to take a packed lunch, so you can enjoy a picnic with a view.

Ziplining over the tea fields
If your family is up for an adventure, we can also arrange an exhilarating ziplining experience. You’ll start at mini Adam’s Peak and fly over iconic tea estates and lush greenery overlooking the famous Ella Gap. The two-wire zip-line stretches for more than half a kilometre, slides at 80kmph, and offers a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful hills of the island. If this sounds like fun, ask your Travel Specialist to include this in your travel plan.
The zipline experience is suitable for children aged 7 years+
Mountain biking through the hills
For older kids we can arrange a mountain biking experience in Ella. With your guide leading the way, you’ll cycle through breathtaking (and sometimes slightly challenging) landscapes, passing tea plantations, waterfalls, and lookout points with panoramic views. Along the way, you’ll visit some of Ella’s highlights, such as the famous Nine Arches Bridge and a tea factory. After an active day, you can treat the family to a refreshing juice in the village. Ask your Travel Specialist to include this in your travel plan.
The mountain bike experience is suitable for children aged 12 years+

Day 3 – Departure
The next day you’ll breathe in the fresh countryside air, before moving on to your next destination.
