When I was a kid I would spend days jumping on and off of buses, studying the place names on the bus blinds for places I had never heard of to visit. So, it’s no surprise that this enthusiasm for getting lost translated into a passion for adventuring around the world as soon as I could!

I absolutely love India and on my first trip there in my 20’s I experienced an unforgettable month in the Andaman Islands, sleeping under a mosquito net, feasting on mangoes and swimming in turquoise water on a deserted island like a modern-day Robinson Crusoe. It’s a country where you cannot help but be swept up in the colour, noise and magical commotion!

People

Anyone who has travelled the globe will have found themselves deep in conversations with interesting people from all walks of life. Travelling the globe has made me realise how unique and diverse the world is and how connected we all are to each other.

I’m lucky to have made a career out of my love for these kinds of human interactions and even luckier to be working with a bunch of people here at Rickshaw who love it too!

Education

What better way is there to understand history, geography and anthropology than travelling the world and experiencing it firsthand? I took my then 7- and 9-year-old on a 10-month trip around the world where they learnt more about community, culture, food and language than they would in a textbook (though they did learn how to read a paper map!)

It taught them to view themselves as belonging to a bigger planet than the little island they were born on, and most importantly has given them wanderlust bugs too.

Mindlessness

Bear with me! In our fast-paced lives, the pressures of daily responsibilities can often overwhelm us. However, travel has a remarkable ability to transport us away from the hustle and bustle, allowing us to temporarily set aside our worries about home, work, chores, and obligations.

When I travel, I can fully immerse myself in the present. It’s a unique opportunity to absorb my surroundings—the breathtaking scenery, the vibrant cultures, and the simple joys of exploration. This state of mindlessness offers a refreshing escape from routine, which is hugely liberating.
