Escape the heat of the south and head to Ella – a small laid-back village nestled in amongst tea plantations in the mountains. Of course, there’s plenty of trekking to do. Lace-up your boots and set off on a trek up to Little Adam’s Peak, where you’ll meander through remote villages and spot some beautiful train bridges. Once you’ve climbed the large steps to the summit, you can put your feet up at the top as you look out over the gigantic ridges. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could also climb Ella Rock – a great spot for the sunrise.
Sri Lanka’s also home to possibly the most picturesque train ride in the world, from Kandy to Ella. Wind your way through tea plantations, gushing waterfalls, colourful towns and forests shrouded in mist.
