Day 1 – Arrival at Kruja & free time

Quaint Kruja is only half an hour drive from busy Tirana, but feels miles away. You’ll immediately dive into a different world filled with history and legends. Welcome to the homeland of Albania’s most notorious hero, Skanderbeg. His fortress, set atop the hill, offers the most incredible views of the valley, all the way to the coast. The National Museum, set within the fortress walls, showcases Skanderbeg’s legacy and gives a great insight into the local way of life.

We haven’t planned any activities for you while you’re in Kruja so you could explore the town at your own pace. But cannot recommend the Kruja Bazaar enough. Built nearly 500 years ago, it’s one of the most atmospheric places, with hundreds of stalls lining up the winding cobbled streets. You can easily lose track of time here, marvelling at antiques, colourful tapestry and local handicrafts.

After a day full of exploring, find a quiet local eatery with a terrace and enjoy your meal with a view of sun setting over the hills. Your hotel is located not far from the castle, so you won’t have to walk far to stretch your weary legs.

Day 2 – Time to explore Albania

Today after breakfast it’s time to say good bye to charming Kruja and head to your next destination. Have a little wander through the town before you leave, or drive up to one of the many viewing points to take in the breath-taking views of the valley before hitting the road again.
