Arrival at Kefalonia
Arrive on Kefalonia, the lesser known of the Ionian islands, where you will discover picturesque harbor towns full of colorful Venetian mansions. It’s a quieter island, so you can still find white sandy beaches hidden between steep cliffs with only a handful of other people on them. Check into your apartment in the harbor of the tiny village of Agia Efimia, on a boulevard where you can eat delicious food whilst taking it easy and really adapting to the Greek pace of life.
Cycling at Argostoli & free time
Today you’ll hop on a bike to explore a different part of the island, via a winding road through the green hilly interior. After a short ride, you’ll arrive in the town of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. Stroll on the boulevard and with a bit of luck, you’ll spot the Caretta Caretta turtle swimming near the fishing boats. Continue on pedalling through the countryside, past vineyards and coves with red and grey sand beaches. In the evening, head back to the boulvard for another Greek feast.
The following day is free for you to do as you please. There is so much to see and do among the steep green rock cliffs, white sand beaches and turquoise sea water. Take a trip to Assos, stroll through the streets of pastel-colored old mansions and past the Venetian castle in this car-free, charming village. From here it is a 20 minute drive to Myrthos beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. You could then end the day on a boat trip to the magical Lake Melissani, which is partly located in a cave.
Departure from Kefalonia
After another hearty Greek breakfast, you can either drive your rental car to the airport and head home or stick around and make it an Ionian island hopping adventure. The island has four different ports and ferries run regularly to Lefkas and Zakynthos.
