Arrival Kastraki, near Meteora

On arrival at the village of Kastraki, you will immediately notice the immense mountains with their unique formations, but look a bit closer and you will also see monasteries perched on their summits. You’ve now entered a world that you may have only thought existed in movies. Not far from there you will sleep in a characteristic hotel with wooden balconies, a lovely garden and of course spell-binding views.

Hike & monastery visit

Today it is time to admire the monasteries up close by heading to the tops of these mysterious dark grey rocks. In the past, the monasteries could only be reached via a pulley system but today most can be reached on foot via stairs. At its inception, communities of monks often lived in the monasteries that were completely isolated and some of them monasteries are still inhabited today but luckily they do accept visitors.
