    Madeira is still relatively undiscovered as a surf spot and has the additional advantage that you can surf there all year round.  For novice surfers, there is a surf school on the safest surf beach on the island and for those experienced enough to head out on their own, your hotel in Porto da Cruz is within walking distance to the beach, allowing you to hit the waves whenever the conditions are right.
