Time to relax for a few days in Nazaré. With its rugged coastline and giant waves, this charming fishing village is normally more popular with local tourists. Ride the funicular to the lookout point at Sitio and take a wonderful boat trip to Ilha da Berlenga, or just settle down to eat some fresh fish and relax on the wide sandy beach.

Arrival in Nazaré on the Atlantic coast

Arrive in Nazaré today, the perfect stopover on the beach to break up a road trip along the coast. The next two nights are all about relaxation and enjoyment, sleeping in a simple hotel on the coast, where the shops and restaurants packed with locally caught fish are just around the corner.

Wake up this morning and within five minutes you can be on the beach of Nazaré, underneath your umbrella or sunbathing on a beach towel like local. Had enough of the sun? Ride the funicular carriage to the lookout point at Sitio for panoramic views of the beach or make the pilgrimage town of Fátima. You can also explore Bairro dos Pescadores, a picturesque neighbourhood, grabbing a lunch of fresh seafood straight from the bay.

Today it is time to leave Nazaré and travel on, wherever you are heading you can stop at the castle village of Obidos and explore its narrow, cobbled streets and white-yellow and blue houses tasting the local cherry brandy, ginjinha.
