Getting around Mexico

General information

When creating your Mexico holiday, our specialists will also arrange your transport for you. From buses to flights, find out more information about all the options we offer at Rickshaw for travelling in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize below.

Buses

The majority of your travel within Mexico, Guatemala and Belize will be first-class buses.

They run to a pretty tight schedule and are often direct to your final destination. They are equipped with comfortable reclining seats and air conditioning. Some routes also operate overnight buses so you can travel whilst you sleep. We will organise your bus tickets, and you can jump in a taxi to and from the bus station. If you would prefer us to organise these transfers too just let your travel specialist know when planning your trip.

Domestic flights

If you are travelling longer distances within Mexico or to Guatemala or Belize, you may take a short flight rather than the bus. Mexico has several airlines, AeroMexico and Mexicana fly most domestic routes. From Mexico City and Cancun there are flights to Guatemala City and Flores in Guatemala and Belize City. We can arrange these as part of your itinerary or in combination with your international flights.

Taxis

In Mexico you will have little trouble finding a taxi, at a very affordable rate. Most journeys within a city cost about between US$2 and US$5. Some taxis are metered but if this isn’t the case be sure to agree on a price in advance and make sure you have enough change. Pre booked (radio) taxis, located at taxi ranks, hotels and restaurants, are more expensive than street taxis.

Nowhere in the world are taxis more present than in Mexico City, but there are also illegal taxis operating so it is better to always take a registered (radio) taxi from a stand or have the hotel reception call you one.

Travelling with meaning

Wherever possible we try to bring you closer to the destination you are visiting, even through how you travel around. By using local people and local companies we help have a positive impact on the communities and economy of Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.
