Step back in time and leave the hectic world behind for a truly authentic Cretan experience. Here women weave intricate silk laces while men work on olive farms, the pace of life is slow and the wine carafes are never empty. For the next four days you'll feel a part of the local community who will welcome you with open arms. Welcome to Vamos, a traditional working village in Western Crete, where time seems to have stopped at just the right moment.
Vamos in Crete

Day 1 – Welcome to Vamos!

You’ll drive down the winding roads of Crete past rolling hills covered with cloud-like flocks of sheep to the very heart of the island. Here, hidden away from the tourist trails, lies a small village of Vamos, where you’ll be staying in a quirky traditional stone house. Get into the slow pace of life and feel like a local in this small welcoming community as you walk through the town towards a bakery where your breakfast is served. Spend your afternoon mingling with the locals in one of the tavernas where delightful dishes are whipped up fresh and wine carafes are never empty.

Day 2 – Explore the olive farms

The next morning you’ll dive deeper into the local way of life. Together with your guide you’ll visit a farm, where you’ll learn everything about olive oil production from start to finish, walk through the olive groves and chat to the local farmers who know all the intricacies of the process and have the first hand experience in growing olives. You’ll then continue to a small oil factory to witness the process of olives being pressed (if in season) and turned into the Crete’s most famous golden elixir. You’ll get to try the freshly pressed olive oil and get some tips on what to look for when purchasing. After lunch in the countryside, you’ll head back to your Cretan home with bags of information (and, quite possibly, olive oil).

Days 3-4 – Free time and departure

The rest of your time in Vamos is free for you to enjoy the slow-paced Greek lifestyle. Head to the beach, hike up the White Mountains or slowly sip your Greek coffee on a sunny terrace and watch the world go by. After breakfast on your final day in Vamos you’ll hop back in your car and continue your adventures around Crete.
