Day 1 – Arrival in Zhangjiajie
Upon your arrival in Zhangjiajie, which lies slightly off the beaten track, a driver will meet you at the airport or train station. In around an hour, you will be taken to Wulingyuan, where you will spend the next three nights in a simple yet charming hotel.
Wulingyuan provides an ideal base for exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Everything in the town centre is within easy walking distance, the park’s eastern entrance is just a short stroll away, and there are banks, restaurants, and shops close by. You can also enjoy the authentic local atmosphere at the morning market or the evening street food market.
Day 2 – To the Avatar Mountains in Forest Park
The following day you will explore Zhangjiajie National Forest Park with an English-speaking guide. From the eastern entrance you will take a shuttle bus deeper into the park. From the valley you may continue by bus or travel up into the mountains on the Bailong Elevator, or if you are fit and enjoy walking you can hike up on foot. You might visit Yuanjiajie, home to the famous “floating mountains” that inspired the film Avatar, and take in the breath-taking views of the spectacular karst formations from the main platform. Together with your guide you will discuss your preferences and the best route to follow. Should you wish to use the cable car or the Bailong Elevator, tickets can be purchased locally.
Day 3 – Free time for more adventures
We have deliberately included an extra day so you can fully enjoy all that the region has to offer. If you enjoy hiking, we suggest spending another day in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Having likely seen the park’s main highlights the previous day, a visit to the Huangshizhai area makes a great option. Situated in the western part of the park, it is often less crowded.
If you prefer a different kind of adventure, the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon near Wulingyuan awaits. Here, you can cross an impressive glass bridge suspended high above the gorge. Below, you will also find information about the special Charm of Xiangxi show.
Day 4 – Onward journey
After a few exciting days, you will leave the region and continue to your next destination. We will arrange a private transfer back to Zhangjiajie City, from where you can travel onward by domestic flight or high-speed train, depending on your plans.
