Drive into desert dunes
Speed towards the Sahara, watch the landscape become sparse and pass through small, dust-swirled villages with camels grazing on the roadside. Set off into the sunset on a camel safari, spend the night in a rustic desert camp and sit around a blazing campfire under star-studded Saharan skies. In the morning, see the shifting shadows of camels crossing the dunes and plod back towards your car to continue your journey through Morocco.
Get off the beaten track
Drive to hidden villages in palm-fringed valleys, explore vast rocky gorges and wander around blue-washed mountain settlements packed with fairytale atmosphere. Throughout your journey, you’ll find goats grazing up in the tree branches, camels ambling along the side of the road, pop-up rug sellers that appear from nowhere and endless argan bushes spreading into the horizon. It’s a wonderful way to see Morocco, giving you all of the freedom of the open road.
Travel from mountains to beaches
Drive into the Atlas mountains, a world of twisting, scenic roads, blossoming foothills and bare rocky peaks. Get a firsthand glimpse of local hospitality, trek to head-spinning heights and descend to breezy beaches for a well-earned breather. Wander along the coastline of bohemian Essaouira, where turquoise fishing boats bob in the water and fresh seafood sizzles on outdoor grills. Take a camel ride along the shoreline, amble the crumbling kasbah or opt for the sandy beaches of Agadir.
Driving in a new country may seem a scary prospect, but after roadtrippin' in Morocco we found the roads are smooth and the freedom irresistible.
