March: Fiesta de la Vendimia
On the South Coast of Peru you’ll find Ica, a small city which celebrates a fruity annual tradition, Fiesta de la Vendimia! This traditional wine harvest festival is celebrated with processions, dance and most importantly, wine. Expect parades, contests and plenty of grape stomping.
March/April: Semana Santa
Semana Santa is one of Peru’s finest religious festivals, attracting visitors across the country. It is celebrated the week before Easter Sunday with spectacular daily processions across many parts of the country, including Cusco, Ayacucho, Arequipa and Huancayo.
June: Fiesta del Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun):
This ancient festival is held in Sacsayhuaman, north of Cuzco with authentic Inca rituals, processions, folk dancing and competitions. It’s a must-see if you happen to be in the area during this time.
November: Puno week
This is a celebration of the founding of the city by the Spanish and involves a fascinating re-enactment of the appearance of the founders of the Inca Empire, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, from Lake Titicaca. Some of the most beautiful traditional fiestas are held here during this week.
