Travel specialist Ross in front of palm tree in Brazil

On my last trip to Brazil I flew into Recife and stayed in nearby Olinda to enjoy the tropical climate before heading to Salvador – my favourite city! After samba dancing the nights away I went to the Amazon to stay in a jungle lodge and fish for piranha. Then to Rio, where I saw the Maracana football stadium and wandered the favelas in the famous City of God with a local guide. Lastly I stayed on the picture postcard island of Ilha Grande.

Brazil travel specialist Ceri laying in a hammock

I took my first step onto Latin American soil when I landed in iconic Rio de Janeiro to begin my first solo travel venture and it certainly lived up to the hype. I loved the flooded cobbled streets of Paraty and my experience in the Pantanal jungle spotting wildlife was well worth every single mosquito bite. I finally flew back in 2009 for a 5 day boat trip down the Amazon river, fishing for piranhas before beach-hopping along the stunning North East coast. What I miss most are the amazing acai smoothies for breakfast. Learning Portuguese is still high up on my to do list so I hope to be ready for the next visit.
