Peru is home to Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic sites in the world. Yes, it is very popular, but once you are there you don’t care as it’s just so awe-inspiring.

For the trekkers out there, the Salkantay trek is my personal favourite way to visit and is much quieter than the classic Inca Trail. If you don’t want to camp, though, then visiting by train offers another unique experience.

However you choose to visit, the food is some of the best in Latin America and that alone is worth the trip.

I have spent a fair bit of time in Peru and I’m keen to return soon to experience the breath-taking scenery and colourful culture.

My most memorable experience was, without a doubt, Machu Picchu. Nowadays you can do all sorts besides trekking, though. Things like cooking with locals, helping on a farm as well as wildlife in the Amazon. There’s really something for everyone!
