Stay in a remote rural fort, meet the villagers and learn about local ways. You’ll sleep in a fort dating back over 300 years, packed with atmosphere and history - a homestay with a royal twist. Chandelao is a community initiative in the heart of Rajasthan, helping the villagers earn fair wages and teaching visitors about rural life. You’ll also take a jeep tour to the surrounding villages, giving you a behind-the-scenes glimpse into authentic rural life.
Day 1 – Arrival in Chandelao
This morning, you’ll travel from Pushkar to Chandelao. Here you’ll spend the night in a 300 year old fort in the centre of the village. You can walk into the village, where you’ll see kids playing cricket and women herding cattle in colourful saris. In the evening, you can dine by candlelight at the fort.
Day 2 – Chandelao – countryside jeep tour – Jodhpur
After breakfast, you’ll step into the jeep with your guide to explore the local countryside. The friendly locals will teach you about their daily lives, and you’ll pass schools, clay huts and pottery workshops. In the pottery workshop, you’ll try your hand at whipping up a pot of your own. It is not as easy as it looks! You’ll return to the fort for lunch before continuing to Jodhpur, where this trip ends.
