Mexico is one of my favourite countries in the world. It’s full of incredible sounds, tastes, colours and cultures, but the amazing thing that brings it all together for me is the people; they are some of the kindest, warmest and most open that I have ever come across. Whether you’re relaxing on a picturesque beach, trekking in the jungle among the ruins of ancient civilisations or lost on a packed train in Mexico City, the people will always add an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.
Many years ago, I led tours through Central America and the Mayan loop around Guatemala & Belize was always my favourite bit. Things I loved most were exploring ancient Mayan ruins, the colonial cobblestone plazas, snorkelling with manatees, climbing volcanoes around serene Lake Atitlan and even the Mariachi bands. For me, the best part of travel is experiencing local life and culture, and the colourful and indigenous highlands offer this aplenty. Mexican cuisine has to be my favourite and it’s top of my list to return as soon as I can!
