Thailand – it’s not just for backpackers

Blog

Thailand is so much more than a beachy hot-spot for newly-fledged gap year backpackers. And, despite what you might have read or heard about its reputation, Thailand has a lot more to offer than full moon parties and buckets. In fact, the ‘Land of Smiles’ has heaps of appeal for travellers of all ages. Here at Rickshaw Travel, we believe that our customers should get the opportunity to explore the real Thailand in their own, personal way. That’s why we’re always on the look-out for unique and enriching travel experiences that veer off the well-worn tourist path and instead bring you closer to the heart of the country. From authentic homestays in the green countryside to oil lamps in an island paradise, with our bite-sized Thailand trips you can create a Thailand holiday with a twist.

Thailand offers something for everyone

Thailand is a beautiful, fascinating country and appeals to travellers of all ages, you can travel across the country by train or plane and we can create as much as you like with the amount of time you have. We are here to guide you to make the very most of your Thailand adventure. Some people like to mix a little bit of history, culture and wildlife at the beginning of their trip then relax on an island at the end; soaking up the sunshine on a white sand beach. However even the islands can throw in a bit of adventure why not try a cookery course or a boat /fishing trip.

Curious? Take a look at our guide to island hopping for inspiration.

A dose of culture…

Thailand really does have it all. It’s rich in culture, fascinating history and impressive temples. Take a train to the ancient city of Ayutthaya which was chosen by the King to be the capital of Thailand in 1350 and is steeped in ancient Royal history. During your Thailand trip, we can organise a tuk tuk tour which will take you around the countless temples at sunset. Meanwhile Sukothai can be reached by overnight train from Bangkok and is a good stopover on your way to Chiang Mai. This fascinating City’s architecture has been influenced by the Khmer, Indian and Sri Lankan cultures and nowadays the ruins of the City is a UNESCO monument.

If wildlife is an important part of your trip, Khao Yai National park is an ancient jungle only a few hours from Bangkok. Here you can stay in a picturesque lodge set in beautiful gardens and surrounded by jungle, take a dip in the lodges pool, go wildlife spotting in the park for wild elephants, toucans and gibbons and walk to crystal clear waterfalls.

Our unique and comfortable accommodation

We offer varying standards of accommodation in Thailand; steering away from large chain hotels and instead choosing authentic small hotels/bungalows located in the prime spots in the City or the hidden bays we’ve discovered.

Our ‘comfortable standard’ options each feature their own bathrooms and most will have air-conditioning and a pool. Our ‘in-style’ options are in a boutique style which offers the same standard as the ‘comfortable’ option but with that little something extra in terms of atmosphere or quality of facilities. We also offer a ‘special stay’ option which is perfect for travellers who want a little bit of luxury during their Thailand holiday or who may be celebrating a special occasion such as their anniversary or honeymoon. Within your Travel Plan, you may stay in our simple or basic accommodation. This is all about the experience and is usually included in our trekking modules or places where there are not too many options, such as the jungle or small islands.

Hassle-free Thailand travel

Our style of travel is very unique and we’ll work closely with you to arrange your perfect trip. We’ll take into account your personal interests- whether it be wildlife, culture or history- and provide expert advice on where to travel in the different seasons (making sure to avoid those pesky monsoons!). We’ll source the best locations and unusual accommodations, book your train travel and internal flights, then link it all together so that your trip flows seamlessly.

By pre-booking with Thailand Travel Plan before you leave the U.K, you can enjoy your well-earned holiday when you arrive and avoid the headache of negotiating and arranging things or being disappointed when your favourite place is full. We also know that sometimes travelling somewhere new can be a little bit daunting, so we also have a local office in Thailand who are there to support you 24/7 should you need it.
