Old and new in Kathmandu

Bite-sized trip

    • Itinerary:
      Kathmandu
    • Duration:
      3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
    • Price:
from £ 149.- per person (excluding flights)
Wander between temples draped with prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Explore ancient cobbled backstreets and soak up the spiritual atmosphere of Kathmandu. Eye-opening and sometimes overwhelming, you’ll find something fascinating around every corner. With the snow-tipped Himalayas towering over all. You’ll spend two nights getting to know Kathmandu, where children play amidst the curling smoke of funeral pyres and monkeys run riot over hilltop temples. From sacred stupas to steaming momos and scenic rooftop bars, it’s a city full of surprises.

Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu

When you arrive in Kathmandu, you’ll be greeted by your driver and whisked away to your accommodation. When you’ve freshened up and recovered from your flight, your Nepal trip will really begin and you can take a stroll around the area to soak up the atmosphere. And perhaps find a good spot to eat. Definitely check out one of the many rooftop restaurants Thamel has to offer and order your first Nepalese thali.

    Day 2 – City tour

Today, you’ll explore Kathmandu with a local guide. Durbar Square is the ideal starting point, scattered with beautiful medieval temples. Take a seat on the steps, watch the world go by and soak up the spiritual atmosphere. You’ll also visit Swayambunath, the oldest temple in the valley, now overrun with scampering monkeys. Next, you’ll head for sacred Pashupatinath, where open-air cremations take place and Bouddhanath, a Buddhist monument in the heart of ‘Little Tibet’. Each temple is adorned with colourful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, set against snowy peaks and bright blue skies.

    Optional: Wellness experience

Step away from the buzz of Kathmandu and slow things down with our AVATA Wellness package. This well-balanced experience combines yoga, a relaxing massage and a sound bath healing session, rounded off with a nourishing three-course dinner. Ideal if you’re arriving after a long flight or looking for a calm end to your trip, it’s an easy way to reset and feel refreshed without committing to a full retreat.

If this sounds of interest, ask your Travel Specialist for more details.

    Day 3 – Departure

After breakfast, you’ll check out of your hotel and continue with your adventure in Nepal. You’re very likely to be back in Kathmandu again at the end of the trip as it’s home to Nepal’s only international airport, so don’t worry if you haven’t managed to squeeze in all the sights.
