Community homestays in Nepal
The Community Homestay Network is a Nepal-based social enterprise that connects travellers with local families, offering a more personal way to experience the country. Instead of staying in standard hotels, you’ll sleep in community-run homestays, where daily life unfolds around you. The focus is on genuine connection, giving you a window into Nepali culture while opening up lesser-visited regions that many travellers would otherwise miss.
Behind the scenes, the network works closely with communities to develop and run these homestays, providing training in hospitality, sustainability and business skills. This means your trip directly supports local families, with income staying in the community and helping create long-term opportunities – particularly for women. By linking travellers with grassroots initiatives, the Community Homestay Network turns travel into something more meaningful, where your stay has a clear, positive impact on both people and place.
We can arrange for you to sleep in one (or more) of these inspiring homestays during your Nepal trip. Take a look below for more details, or speak with one of our Travel Specialists to start planning.

Live like a local near Kathmandu
The historic Newari town of Panauti is just over an hour from Kathmandu, making it an easy homestay to include in a shorter Nepal trip. You’ll stay with a local family in a simple but comfortable room and share home-cooked meals together. During your time here, you’ll get a feel for everyday village life—wander through temple-lined streets, meet locals, learn to make momos and even lend a hand in the fields if you like. It’s a relaxed, hands-on experience, with the option to stay for one or two nights depending on your plans.
Nagarkot: a peaceful escape into the hills
The Nagarkot community homestay is also easily accessible from Kathmandu, and offers a peaceful escape into the hills with sweeping Himalayan views. You’ll stay with a local family in a simple but comfortable room, with all meals included and plenty of time to settle into village life. During your stay, you’ll learn to cook traditional dishes, join a gentle hike through forests and farmland, and even take part in daily activities like farming or craft-making. There’s also time for a yoga session with mountain views.

Experience mountain life in Narchyang
Experience mountain village life in the Annapurna region with a stay at the Narchyang Community Homestay which is around five hours drive from Pokhara. Located in a peaceful village away from the main trekking routes, it’s surrounded by fertile fields, grazing livestock and forested hillsides. During your stay you’ll explore the surrounding Himalayan landscapes on hikes with a local guide.
Wildlife and village life in Chitwan National Park
The Barauli community homestay is a great addition to a Nepal trip if you’re heading to Chitwan National Park, combining wildlife with a genuine insight into local village life. You’ll stay in a simple but comfortable thatched cottage inspired by traditional Tharu homes. During your stay, you’ll explore the surrounding villages by bike, join cultural activities like cooking and traditional dance, and head out on a jeep safari in Chitwan National Park in search of the elusive one-horned rhino
