Your day-by-day itinerary
Arrival in Batang Ai
Early morning you’ll be picked up by your driver and guide and head towards a local market to pick up supplies for your stay. Follow your guide around to learn about local ingredients and you can even help pick out what you would like to eat over the next couple of days! After another quick stop for lunch, you’ll drive another couple of hours to the reservoir where Iban from the Sumpa lodge will be ready and waiting with your longtail boat. You’ll reach your lodge by the river as dusk is setting, enjoy a peaceful meal with the sounds of the jungle and settle in for an early night.
After a delicious breakfast cooked by your guide, you will head off into the jungle. You will trek through native trees and you may even spot an Orangutan nest, or even better an Orangutan! After a couple of hours, you will reach a large, hidden waterfall, where you can take a dip and soak in your surroundings. This is sure to be just what you’re after at this moment in time!
Your guide will cook you a BBQ lunch in bamboo over a fire before heading off again for a little more trekking. In the evening, you are invited to join the local Iban at the nearby Sumpa Lodge for dinner, rice wine and socialising; it’s a great way to learn about their culture and see how they live!
Departure from Batang Ai
An early morning breakfast will see you back to the jetty, where you’ll say goodbye to your lodge and the jungle and make your way back to Kuching with your guide. You’ll stop en route for lunch, and arrive back to Kuching late afternoon.
