Accommodation in Ecuador

We’re always on the lookout for comfortable, small-scale accommodation throughout Ecuador, giving our travellers a true taste of Ecuadorian hospitality, whilst supporting local business along the way. We like hotels with a bit of character and a good location, and happily, we’ve found plenty of options which fit the bill. In many places, you can also treat yourself so something a little special, whether that’s a higher class of hotel, or perhaps something in a unique location or style.

In Style Accommodation – Category 4

Sometimes it’s nice to have a little luxury, so in some places, we offer the chance to upgrade to something a little more ‘upmarket’. This could be a stylish colonial hotel in Quito’s Old Town, a beautiful hacienda on the outskirts of Otavalo or a boutique spa hotel in the cloud forest near Mindo.

Standard Accommodation – Category 3

The majority of our Ecuador accommodation sits in this category. Well-located, clean and warm hotels or lodges with plenty of local character. Often these properties are within walking distance to the centre of a town, or provide a pleasant rural retreat where you can connect with nature. Expect a comfy bed, a friendly welcome and a hearty breakfast each morning.

Simple Accommodation – Category 2

Occasionally, particularly in rural areas, the accommodation options are more limited and a little rough around the edges – these are sometimes our favourite places though! Usually these will be in a lovely out of the way location, with bags of character and a very genuine feel to them. You’ll still have a comfortable private room and a good breakfast, of course. The best example would be the lodges you’ll stay in whilst trekking in the Quilotoa region.

Special Stays

Sometimes hotels and lodges can be difficult to categorise, since they offer something truly unique in addition to our usual considerations. It seems a little unfair just to put them in a category, so we also call them our ‘Special Stays’. These include a highland resort with its own thermal pools, a Hobbit-style lodge next to a waterfall on the outskirts of Baños, and a charming hacienda surrounded by farmland with views of the Cotopaxi Volcano.
