Self Drive in Nicaragua
You might be surprised to know that it’s possible to rent a car in Nicaragua, and that the road network is one of the most developed in Central America. With the exception of the Panamericana highway, most roads are relatively deserted. Because most of the drives in Nicaragua are on well paved main roads, there’s no need for a 4-wheel-drive car here. If however, you would prefer a 4WD, we can upgrade your hire car to category C. You can find out more about the cars we use below.
Category B Toyota Yaris Advance or similar
Category C 4WD Suzuki Grand Vitara or similar
To make sure you’re up to speed with the terms and conditions of renting a car in Nicaragua we have put together all the information you’ll need in one page.
Since the 8th June 2015 the paper counterpart of your driver’s licence is no longer valid. The DVLA have advised that if you are hiring a car, in the UK or abroad, and you are asked to provide evidence of your driving record you will be able to do so by accessing the Share My Driving Licence service via the DVLA online for free.
