A wildlife-packed wilderness
Argentina is crammed full with all kinds of eye opening wildlife. Choose to hop in a boat to spot engendered whales, watch ostrich-like nandoo dart across the plains and see penguins get up to comedy antics. The Peninsula Valdes, on Patagonia’s north Atlantic coast, is bursting with seals, whales and penguins. Watch from a responsible distance the huge colonies of elephant seals wriggling under crumbly cliffs, whales breaching in the waves and penguins patrolling the shoreline.
See raccoon-like coatis in Iguazu rainforest
A series of over one hundred thundering waterfalls criss-crossed by rainbows and thick spray – the Iguazu Falls in the rainforest are completely unmissable in their own right. However, the National Park surrounding the Falls is a tropical pocket packed with wildlife, from exotic birds to raccoon-like coatis. On the Brazilian side, you’ll find the Parque das Aves, where you can walk through huge aviaries among ara parrots, macaws and toucans.
