Your day-by-day itinerary
Markets & Plazas of Lima
You’ll spend your first night in Lima, visit the museums, try a traditional plate of ceviche or sit back with a Pisco in a pavement cafe. Shrouded in the garùa mist that rolls in from the Pacific Ocean, it’s a surreal city with a vibe that’s completely its own. On arrival we’ll pick you up and take you to your hotel, a charming pousada with a roof terrace in the heart of the Miraflores district.
Onward transfers
Next, we’ll arrange for a transfer to take you from your hotel in Lima to the airport. Here you’ll catch a flight to Arequipa.
Easy Going Arequipa
Arequipa has a pleasantly peaceful atmosphere with the main attraction being it’s colonial Santa Catalina monastery. As you’ll be spending most of your Peru trip at high altitude, Arequipa (2350m) is an ideal place to spend a couple of days acclimatising. You’ll stay in a pretty colonial pousada with a flower-filled courtyard.
Onward transfers
You will then be collected by private car for your Colca Canyon trip.
Cruising the Colca Canyon by 4x4
Carve out your own adventure in the dizzying Colca Canyon travelling by private 4×4. Watch huge condors glide on mountain thermals and stop in sleepy traditional villages. With a private guide, you’ll navigate nerve-tingling mountain passes with panoramic views of the snow-topped Andes and El Misti volcano over two days. Crossing the high plains, you’ll see llamas grazing in the long wisps of grass.
Onward transfers
After your Colca Canyon trip you will have lunch, before heading to Puno by private car.
Typically Titicaca
You’ll spend the next 2 nights in the youthful town of Puno, from where you’ll set off on a boat trip to the islands and communities of Lake Titicaca. Meet the locals who call this place home, visit a floating reed island, help prepare your lunch using underground ovens, and sit back as you glide across the still waters. Titicaca was a sacred place for the Incas, believed to be the birthplace of the sun, and the lake remains one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots on the continent.
Onward transfers
After a good night’s sleep and a substantial breakfast, you’ll make your own way to the bus station to catch the express bus to Cusco. The trip takes about 6 hours, a lot quicker than the tourist bus, which makes several stops on the way. You’ll arrive in Cusco around 3pm where you’ll be met by a guide who will go through your itinerary. Afterwards you will take a taxi to your hotel.
Explore the Cobbled Streets of Cusco
Explore Cusco, the Inca heartland and a city of colourful contrasts. During this trip, you’ll spend two nights in Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. Travellers from all over the world meet here before heading into the mountains, making it a lively hub of restaurants, bars and museums. Scattered with Inca ruins and colonial churches, it’s a brilliant place for an atmospheric wander.
Onward transfers
Next you’ll be collected in a minibus alongside a small group of international travellers.
Train Tracks to Machu Picchu
Skip the trekking and take the train to Machu Picchu, arriving in easy style. Train and car are a great way to explore the Sacred Valley without any of the sweat and blisters of trekking. If you’re looking to relax en route to Machu Picchu, it’s absolutely the best way to travel. You’ll spend a couple of nights in the relaxed town of Ollantaytambo, before hopping on the train to Aguas Calientes ready to see the Lost City the following morning. Afterwards, we’ll arrange your train ticket back to Cusco.
Onward transfers
After marvelling at Machu Picchu you’ll spend a couple of extra nights in Cusco to relax. At the end of your stay you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima where you’ll connect on to your flight home.
