Day 1 – Arrive on the Sunshine Coast

A few hours from Vancouver or Campbell River by road and ferry, the oceanside village of Lund is worth the journey. It makes for an ideal place to stop over with the kids when travelling between Vancouver Island and the mainland. You’ll stay in a historic setting; your hotel was first built in 1895 and is now run by the local Tla’amin First Nation community.

With a shoreline boasting incredible natural scenery and plenty of outdoor activities both on the water and on land, the Sunshine Coast is a small slice of paradise just begging to be explored!

The nearby islands of Savary and Copeland are superb day trips for lovers of brilliant white beaches, and the extraordinary Desolation Sound Marine Park will leave an impression on kids and adults alike.

Day 2 – Kayaking & geocaching

You’ll start the day by heading out for a morning of kayaking across the seas – don’t worry, even the little ones can join in as the kayaks are big enough to nestle them between parents. Paddling alongside playful seals, your guide will teach you all about the marine life here, and you can even take a look underwater yourself by grabbing the goggles and diving in for a spot of snorkelling in the shallows.

Once you’re back on dry land, it’ll be time to set off in search of treasure! Geocaching is a seriously fun family activity. Armed with a GPS, you’ll work together to crack the clues and scour the shore in search of hidden items. It’s a great way to discover the area, with beautiful beach walks and winding trails leading your way. After lunch, the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the local area.

Day 3 – Depart the Sunshine Coast

This morning it’ll be time to say goodbye to the charms of Lund and head on to your next destination. Depending on your route, you may be about to spot Orcas off the coast of Vancouver Island, or head inland towards the Rocky Mountains over the incredibly scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway. Not a bad choice to have to make, right?
