Kicking Back with Quetzals
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival in San Gerardo de Dota
The beautiful winding drive through the mountainous highlands sees the road plunge into a valley, where you’ll discover your lodge sitting at an altitude of 2500m. Your afternoon and evening are free to relax, and the peaceful surroundings make it difficult not to. The lodge has everything you need with a restaurant and bar, along with some lovely outside areas where you can sit back and take in the sounds of the forest.
Day 2 – Nature walk & departure
After a restful night sleep away from the heat of the coast, you’ll meet your guide for your early morning walk to spot the iconic local residents – quetzal birds – feeding off the avocado trees. Avocados only bloom and give fruit once every three years, so you will be on a mission to find the right one! This is one of the best parts of the country for bird spotting, with toucans, nightingales and many other colourful birds waiting to be discovered, including the famous quetzal.
In the afternoon you’ll check out and continue your journey through Costa Rica. Of course, if you’d like to spend an extra night in this idyllic area then just let your travel specialist know, and we’ll book an extra night at the lodge for you.
