    Xiamen has a relaxed feel and is easy to explore. You can wander leafy streets and visit the colonial island of Gulangyu. You will also travel into the countryside to see the remarkable Tulou. These are traditional circular homes built by the Hakka in the 14th century and many are still lived in today.

    Day 1 – Arrival in Xiamen

    On arrival you will be warmly welcomed and taken to your hotel in Xiamen. The city is a refreshing coastal escape in southern China with a relaxed student feel and leafy streets that are easy to explore on foot. You will stay in a small scale hotel with a modern industrial style and a touch of colonial charm. Take some time to settle in before heading out to discover the waterfront, local cafés and the laid back atmosphere that makes Xiamen such an inviting place to begin your journey.

    Day 2 – Excursion to the Tulou villages

    Further outside the city you will find the Tulou traditional Hakka homes dating back to the 14th century. Local people still live in these distinctive round buildings which once protected them from robbers and typhoons. Today you will explore this special region. At 08:00 your driver will collect you from your hotel and after a drive of around 2.5 to 3 hours you will arrive in Nanjing. You will visit the Tianluokeng Tulou site a famous cluster of round Hakka houses with a unique layout. You will then continue to the Yuchang Building known as the Leaning Building for its slight tilt and long history. After lunch which is not included you will continue to the Gaobei Tulou site one of the best known complexes with well preserved traditional buildings. In the late afternoon you will return to Xiamen.

    Days 3 – Departure from Xiamen

    After your final breakfast in Xiamen you will transfer to the station and continue your journey by high speed train to your next destination. Sit back and enjoy the comfort of travelling across China’s changing landscapes as you head further into your route.
