Arrival in Maskeliya
As you journey towards Maskeliya you’ll see thundering waterfalls, dense forests, and endless tea fields with local pickers at work in their brightly coloured saris. After about three hours, you’ll reach Kitulgala. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet and a spot of lunch. Once you’ve reached your hotel, you’ll probably want to spend the rest of the afternoon doing as little as possible; after all, tomorrow the real adventure begins!
Climb Adam's Peak & Departure
Sri Pada, also known as Adam’s Peak, is the most sacred mountain in Sri Lanka and most Sri Lankans would like to climb it at least once in their lifetime. Today you’ll join some of them! It’s an early start at 2am this morning and although it might take you a little while to wake up, once you begin the steady walk towards the base of the mountain, you’ll soon feel excited to make your journey to the top. You’ll see the ribbons of twinkling lights illuminate the mountain in the distance.
It can be quite chilly in the morning, so it’s a good idea to wear layers. You’ll soon notice the path become steeper and after about four hours, you’ll finally reach the top. Catch your breath and watch as the landscape in front of you is drenched in the morning sunlight. Your legs will probably feel like jelly as you begin the descent, but you’ll soon be back at the bottom where your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel. Have a rest and relax before continuing to your next destination.
