During this trip to Rome, you may be surprised to find that this capital city is a mix of country and city life. On one hand, it is a hectic cosmopolitan metropolis, but on the other hand there is a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere here, due to the numerous green parks and long summer evenings. We’ll arrange for you to head to the Vatican with a highly knowledgeable local and see a different side of the city-state.

Arrival in Rome

When you arrive in Rome you will find many typical Italian sights. Men in suits zipping around on a Vespa, the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and groups spending long evenings in the squares. You will easily slip into this Roman way of life. Your hotel is within walking distance of the train station and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the many restaurants and cafes in the area, or you can easily walk or take the metro to explore the city.

Walking Tour and More Exploring

After exploring the city on your own yesterday and viewing some of the main sights, it’s time to head into the Vatican and explore the lesser-known corners of the small city-state. You’ll walk through central Rome towards St. Peter’s Square with a local guide, who will tell you about the Pope and life in the Vatican from the perspective of an insider, whilst also sharing important information like where to find the best pizza and prosecco inside the city. At the end of the tour, your guide will give you some useful tips to avoid the long lines at St. Peter’s Basilica. The following day then free for you to as you please.
