Overview
One of the highest capital cities in the world, and almost on the equator, Quito’s location surrounded by mountains is something to behold. The city itself has lots of Latin charm too, with plenty of colonial buildings and impressive cathedrals, as well a youthful edge which you’ll see in the street art and bars. You’ll spend a couple of nights in the trendy Mariscal district, and explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town with a local guide. Welcome to Ecuador!

Arrival in Quito
If you’re flying into Quito then the airport is on the outskirts of the city. We’ll arrange for our local partners to transfer you to your hotel – a small-scale, comfortable place in the Mariscal district, where you’ll find many bars and restaurants nearby. We can also book a colonial hotel in the old centre if you prefer, but it is very quiet in the evenings so we usually prefer Mariscal. Take a stroll, grab a bite to eat, and get a good night’s sleep after your travels.
Explore the city
After breakfast this morning, you’ll meet your local guide to explore the ins and outs of the city over the next few hours. First, you’ll visit one of the markets where you can see everyday life unfold, as well as trying some unique Ecuadorian produce before you head to the UNESCO-listed old centre. Filled with colonial-era courtyards, plazas, churches and cathedrals, your guide will tell you all about the city’s history. Your evening will be free to take in the atmosphere of Mariscal once more.
Continue your journey through Ecuador
We can book extra nights for you if you’d like a little longer in Quito, otherwise it’ll be time to check out after breakfast and carry on your Ecuador adventure.
Fancy standing on the equator? It’s around 25km north of the city, and we can either add on a visit after your city tour, or arrange a stop on your onward transfer if it’s en-route.
