In the evenings, savour delicious Sicilian cuisine at the masseria, where you'll have the opportunity to taste local specialties made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Day 1 – Arrival in Avola

Arrive at your characteristic massaria, or country house, along the quiet south-eastern coast of Sicily and you’ll find yourself in a peaceful and serene setting that offers a perfect alternative to the busier seaside resorts near Catania and Taormina. Perched by the sea, the masseria provides breathtaking views over the surrounding fields of grain and potatoes, with the sparkling Mediterranean Sea glistening in the distance. There is a hidden golden sandy beach just a five-minute walk away, where you can relax and unwind by the sea.

Days 2-3 – Beaches and more around Avola

Start the day with an early morning dip in the river estuary near the masseria before breakfast. The secluded beach, not signposted from the main road, ensures that there are few tourists, giving you a serene and private spot to enjoy the beauty of the Sicilian coastline. After your refreshing morning swim, venture out to explore the nearby Vendicari Nature Reserve, a unique and protected area that offers a haven for wildlife and natural beauty. This reserve is a paradise for birdwatchers, as it is one of the few places in Europe where flamingos breed. Another must-visit destination in the area is the town of Noto, where you can wander through the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the many hidden beaches and coves that dot the coastline nearby. For a deeper dive into history, head to the port city of Syracuse (Siracusa) and take a stroll through the narrow streets of Ortigia, the historical centre of Syracuse, to marvel at the well-preserved remains of Greek temples, including the Temple of Apollo.
