Beach Stay in Amed, Bali

Today you’ll travel to the quiet and picturesque village of Amed, on Bali’s eastern coast, where you’ll check into your hotel near to the seafront. You’ll have the afternoon the relax and explore, or perhaps have a quick snorkelling lesson, before meeting with your fellow travellers for evening drinks and dinner next to the Bali Sea.

Boats on the beach on Amed, Balli

Departure from Amed

This morning you’ll be welcomed by your crew as you set off from Amed, and into the unknown. You can relax on the sun deck and get used to life on the boat as you sail from the East Coast of Bali, until making the first stop on the Gili Islands just after lunch. Here you can explore the pristine beaches, as well as taking in one of a number of different watersports if you’re feeling active. In the evening you’ll sail towards the north coast of Lombok, where you’ll drop anchor for the night.

Departure from Amed

In the morning you’ll awaken to find yourself off the coast of Kenawa Island near Lombok, with incredible views of Mt Rinjani looming over horizon. After breakfast, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the island and enjoy the warm sparkling waters where you can swim and snorkel. Later today you’ll meet the famous “sea gypsies” while visiting their village and learn about their life on the water. Overnight you’ll continue your journey east.

Today it’s an early rise as the boat reaches Saleh Bay, where the majestic whale sharks can often be spotted and if you’re lucky, you’ll see these giants very close! Next, you’ll move to Satonda – an uninhabited volcanic island, and one of the highlights of the journey. The locals believe that the water of the Satonda Crater Lake can extend your life and that the nearby trees can fulfil wishes…..worth a try at least! You’ll also have time to snorkel amongst the pristine Coral Reef along the coast, and as the sun sets you can sit on deck with a cold beer and watch as the bats of Satonda head over to the mainland in search of food. You’ll continue until Sumbawa, a few kilometres away, where the boat will drop anchor for the evening.

As the sun comes up you’ll reach the village of Wera on the east coast of Sumbawa, where you’ll gain an insight into the local culture, as well as the boat-making techniques which form an important part of the community. You will have the afternoon to explore a beautiful volcanic island only a few hours away. Covered in rolling green hills and surrounded by pristine coral reefs, it’s a beautiful spot to enjoy the sun and take in the views. You’ll move on towards Komodo Island, where you’ll moor for the night.

You’ll wake up in front of the quiet bay in the northern part of the Komodo National Park. With colourful coral reefs and rich underwater world, this place is a snorkeller’s paradise. And if you’ve been dreaming to see manta rays, this is just the place as these giants come here to feed. If you’re up for more activities, why not kayak or paddleboard around Gili Lawa Darat island?  In the evening you’ll share stories on deck with a well-earned bottle of Bintang beer.

Today you’ll continue to nearby Rinca Island, home to a huge variety of animals including monkeys, buffalo and Komodo Dragons (of course!). The Ranger will lead you to one of the best viewing points on the island, where you’ll look out over the incredible landscape and deep blue sea beyond it. Later today you’ll have a chance to see the sea turtles in their natural habitat, not far from the Siaba island, while snorkelling – an unforgettable experience! In the evening, the crew will prepare a barbeque for everyone on the beach, so you can spend your last night relaxing and reminiscing about your epic journey, before sailing on to your final destination, Labuan Bajo in the west of Flores.

Flores - the end of the journey

After one last dip in the sea and a relaxing breakfast on board the ship, you’ll reach the harbour of Labuhan Bajo and say goodbye to the crew. From your boat and into a car, you’ll take a short ride to one of the nearby villages, where the locals will great you with aromatic coffee and wow you with skilful traditional dances. Sadly, your adventure comes to an end as you reach Labuan Bajo. From here you can set off to explore the volcanoes and tribal cultures of Flores, or simply fly back to the comforts of Bali for a relaxing end to your Indonesian adventure.

“From the moment I first stepped off the plane, I was swept away by Indonesia’s charm and beauty- so much so, that I’ve since lost count of how many times I’ve been! It’s got beaches, cultural wonders, wildlife & warm weather. What’s not to love?”
