Discover the best time to visit Nepal

The seasons in Nepal are pretty much the same as in Europe. In January it’s cold, while in July you could make do with shorts and a t-shirt. But Nepal remains a country of extremes, and, if you’re planning to head into the mountains, you definitely need to be aware of the trekking season. The climate is moderate, which means the winters are dry and the summers are hot. But because of the huge range in altitude and landscape, the climate can differ considerably throughout the country. Take a look at our summary below to get a better idea of when to plan your trip.

Southern Lowlands

This area includes Chitwan National Park and the climate here ranges from 16 degrees in December and January to 27 in June and July. Summers are hot and humid and temperatures can soar. It’s the same heat that covers Northern India at this time of year and the months before the monsoon hits can be particularly hot and sticky. Winters are mild and dry.

Northern Mountains

Including the famous Everest Base Camp Trek as well as treks of the Annapurna mountain range, this region experiences freezing winters and cool summers. It’s best to plan your trek in the dry seasons as you’ll have the best chance of good visibility and clear blue skies.
