At Home in the Curry Kitchen
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival at homestay
When you arrive at your new home and meet your host in the afternoon, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. There’s a really relaxed atmosphere here and you’re sure to feel immediately at ease. You can spend your first evening relaxing in the garden with a good book or taking a look around the home – you’ll find plenty of interesting photos! In the afternoon you’ll head out on a city tour and see the sights. We’d recommend visiting the royal botanical garden and the temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Day 2 – Cooking lesson
Today you’ll start your morning by heading for a stroll through the local villages before tucking into your breakfast. After you’ve eaten, you’ll weave between the stalls of the local markets where your senses will be awoken by the colourful sights and tantalising smells. On your return, it’s time to get your taste buds going as you join the local cook who’ll teach you how to make a delicious Sri Lankan curry, revealing all her tasty secrets.

Day 3 – Departure from homestay
After breakfast today, it’s time to say your goodbyes to your hosts as your Sri Lanka homestay comes to an end. You’ll head onwards towards the next destination on your trip.
Accommodation

For this bite-sized trip we offer the following options
Life amongst the Rice Paddies
For a real immersion into rural Sri Lankan life we can arrange for you to stay in an eco-lodge in the village of Digana – around one hour from Kandy – surrounded by rice paddies and forest.
Owner Nihal set up the eco lodge alongside his Dutch wife, Nel in order to give something back to the villagers. They’ve worked alongside the local community every step of the way to ensure that everything they do benefits those who need it. They employ only local staff from the villages and in his spare time Nihal gives free English classes. The lodge is basic and rustic but this is a unique experience focusing on sustainable tourism.
