Kandy’s Cultural Treasures
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival in Kandy
Today you’ll arrive in the cool green hills of Kandy where you’ll find plenty of fascinating sights just waiting to be explored. Settle into your family friendly hotel, relax and take a dip in the swimming pool. The hotel is a short tuk tuk ride from town if you want to explore or have dinner in a local restaurant. In the late afternoon, a refreshing breeze starts to roll in off the hills so it’s an ideal time to join the locals and take a stroll along the shores of the lake.
Day 2 – Cultural show
Your driver is on hand if you want to explore the local sites. We’d recommend visiting the Royal Botanical Garden, about 3.5 miles from the city centre and the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. You’ll stroll through the ornate temple rooms, learning about the ancient tales of how Buddha’s tooth came to be here.
This evening you will head into the city once again for a cultural show at the Temple of the Tooth. This is one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world and this evening you and your family will get to see the rituals and traditional cultural practices up close. There is drumming, acrobatics, fire-eaters and even walking over hot coals to marvel at, which should amaze all ages!

Cycling through villages & rice fields
If you’re an active family, we can arrange a guided bike tour during your stay in Kandy. You’ll pedal through small villages and along rice terraces, via country roads. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to stop for snacks, a picnic lunch and photos along the way. If this sounds perfect for your family, ask your Travel Specialist to include the tour in your travel plan.
The cycle tour is suitable for children aged 7 years+
Day 3 – Departure from Kandy
After breakfast head off to the next destination on your family adventure through Sri Lanka.
