Day 1 – Travel to Mindo, via the equator
This morning you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Quito or Otavalo by a private driver, ready for the scenic drive to Mindo. It’s usually 2-3 hours, but we’ll arrange to make a stop at Mitad del Mundo – a park built to mark the equator. You’ll need to pay an entrance fee of around US$5, plus a little more if you want to visit Museo Intiñan for some equator-based science!
Afterwards you’ll continue on to Mindo, where you’ll settle in at your rustic bungalow on the edge of town, and maybe take a dip in the pool to cool off. If you’ve got the energy, you could even set off on a short hike along one of the nearby trails. In the evening you can head into the town, where you’ll find a nice selection of cafes and restaurants, as well a few bars where you can enjoy a drink.
Day 2 – Butterflies, birds & waterfalls
This morning you’ll wake up to the sound of birds all around you, and can enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast and some local coffee before you set out. If you’re up early then you can get out on the trails – we’d really recommend the ‘Waterfall Route’, which very much does what it says on the tin! Around midday we’ve arranged entrance tickets and lunch at Mindo’s butterfly house, where you’ll find hundreds of species of all colours and sizes.
If you’d prefer, we can also arrange more adventurous activities such as river tubing or even zip-lining. Just have a chat with your Travel Specialist.
Day 3 – Departure from Mindo
All our trips are flexible, so we can book extra nights for you if you’d like more time to explore, otherwise it’s time to wave goodbye to peaceful Mindo and continue your journey through Ecuador.
