Old and new in Kathmandu

Bite-sized trip

    • Itinerary:
      Kathmandu
    • Duration:
      3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
    • Price:
from £ 149.- per person (excluding flights)
This bite-sized trip offers an easy introduction to Kathmandu - Nepal’s lively capital. Wander through centuries-old temple squares, narrow cobbled alleys and lively local markets. You’ll experience both the spiritual and modern sides of the city — from sacred stupas and traditional neighbourhoods to rooftop cafés and buzzing streets. With two nights in a comfortable hotel and time to explore with a local guide, this bite-sized trip is a great way to start your Nepal adventure.

Day 1 – Welcome to Nepal!

When you arrive in Kathmandu, your driver will be waiting to take you to your small-scale, characterful hotel. Once you’ve had time to freshen up after your flight, your Nepal adventure can begin. Head out for a short stroll to get your first feel for the city and find somewhere to eat. We would recommend one of the many rooftop restaurants in Thamel, where you can try your first Nepalese thali.

    Day 2 – City tour

Today you’ll explore Kathmandu with a local guide. Begin at Kathmandu Durbar Square, where medieval temples and palaces create a lively focal point of the old city. From here you’ll visit Swayambhunath, the valley’s oldest temple, known for its resident monkeys and sweeping views. Continue to Pashupatinath Temple, one of Nepal’s most sacred Hindu sites, before ending at the impressive Boudhanath Stupa, the spiritual heart of the Tibetan community in the city. Find a spot to sit and watch pilgrims and locals circle the stupa, and soak up the spiritual atmosphere.

    Optional: Wellness experience

Step away from the buzz of Kathmandu and slow things down with our AVATA Wellness package. This well-balanced experience combines yoga, a relaxing massage and a sound bath healing session, rounded off with a nourishing three-course dinner. Ideal if you’re arriving after a long flight or looking for a calm end to your trip, it’s an easy way to reset and feel refreshed without committing to a full retreat.

If this sounds of interest, ask your Travel Specialist for more details.

    Day 3 – Departure

After breakfast, you’ll check out of your hotel and continue with your adventure in Nepal. You’re very likely to be back in Kathmandu again at the end of the trip as it’s home to Nepal’s only international airport, so don’t worry if you haven’t managed to squeeze in all the sights.

If you’re feeling active you could don your walking boots and trek across the Kathmandu Valley between medieval towns and mountain villages. For an insight into local life stay overnight in a family home in the small town of Panauti.  Or set off in search of the one-horned rhino in Chitwan National park.
