Among the fur seals in Swakopmund
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Arrival in Swakopmund
After driving through what feels like a moonscape, you’ll arrive at the charming coastal town of Swakopmund. The influences of the German colonial era are still clearly visible in the buildings, the street signs and even the availability of apple strudel in the bakeries! There’s no need for the car while you’re here, as everything is easily reachable by foot. You’ll be staying at a small, homely B&B within walking distance of the town centre and the beach.
Swakopmund is known as the ‘adventure capital’ of Namibia and is renowned for outdoor activities such as sandboarding, quad biking, skydiving and many other water-based activities. Enjoy a relaxed evening exploring the local area before getting adventurous tomorrow.
Day 2 – Kayaking with fur seals
This morning you’ll head out onto the water in search of the huge colony of Cape fur seals just off the coast. There are around 15,000 of these playful mammals, so spotting them is almost guaranteed. Seals are curious creatures and they may swim up to your kayak but don’t be alarmed, they’re used to interactions with humans and your experienced guide is there to keep you safe with minimal disturbance to the wildlife. In addition to seals, there’s a chance you may also spot dolphins and seabirds and, during migration season, you may even be lucky enough to encounter whales.
Swakopmund is the best place for outdoor activities. In addition to kayaking we can arrange a dolphin spotting excursion on a catamaran or you could try sandboarding through the dunes. Scroll down for more information.

Day 3 – Departure from Swakopmund
After breakfast, it’s time to continue your adventure in Namibia. Whether it’s rhino trekking in Damaraland, or searching for the big 4 in Etosha National Park, Namibia is full of unforgettable experiences.
