Seeing animals in the wild leaves memories that will last a lifetime, and the Pacific Rim National Park is one of the best places in Canada to do so! Set against a backdrop of incredible coastline, you'll go by boat in search of black bears foraging for food in their natural habitat. You'll also have time to hike the many wooded walkways and enjoy the deserted beaches. Your time here will be so good, you'll 'bear'-ly believe it! (Sorry).

Day 1 – Arrive in Ucluelet 0r Tofino

A scenic, 4-6 hour drive from either Vancouver City or Victoria, at the northern tip of the Pacific Rim National Park, the small towns of Tofino and Ucluelet are the perfect base for you and your family to explore from. You’ll stay in cosy lodge accommodation in one of the towns, depending on your preferences and availability. Both offer restaurants, shops and stunning scenery!

Day 2 – In search of black bears

Today you’ll travel to Clayoquot Sound, surrounded by nature and home to a huge array of wildlife… including black bears. You’ll board a Zodiac boat (a large rubber dinghy), and zip across the waters close to where the bears will be foraging for food along the shore – respectfully keeping a distance at all times.

The tour lasts 2.5 hours and you’ll all be provided with a safety suit to wear with in-built life jacket – just don’t forget your binoculars! Afterwards, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the Pacific Rim. There are plenty of hiking trails for all ages and abilities, or you may prefer to stay on the water and sea kayak, paddleboard, or surf to your heart’s content.

Day 3 – Explore the Wild Pacific trail

Today you’ll have the whole day free to explore the rugged coastline and towering forests. The Wild Pacific Trail stretches the length of the peninsula along to Ucluelet, with a loop at the headland. The trails are generally easy to moderate in difficulty, and are a great way to explore the coastline. Closer to Tofino there are long stretches of beach for a more relaxed time.

Day 4 – Departure from Pacific Rim National Park

Sady, it’s time to wave goodbye to the picturesque Pacific Rim National Park and move on to the next stop on your family adventure. We recommend heading to Quadra Island, where you can continue your search for Canadian wildlife and witness the incredible sight of killer whales in their natural environment.
