Where will you stay in Borneo?
One of the most important aspects of a good family holiday is getting the accommodation right – even if you’re out and about most days, having somewhere comfortable, welcoming and child-friendly to go back to makes all the difference.
That’s why we vary the hotels and lodges we pick for families, rather than always using the same places we would for couples or groups of adults. Our local team regularly seek out and visit accommodation across Borneo, finding those properties with the right atmosphere, location and facilities for a great stay with children. This could mean well-sized swimming pools, family room options, beach or wildlife locations and experienced hosts that pay attention to the details. You may even make some new friends with like-minded families while you’re there!
How it works
We work with a number of different hotels and lodges in most locations, each personally visited and chosen for their comfort, character, location and facilities. This gives us flexibility, improves availability during busy seasons, and means we can offer upgrades or tailor things more specifically to your family.
The vast majority of our accommodation is small-scale and locally owned, so no big international chain hotels but lots of warmth and personality.
Your travel specialist will talk you through everything and, unless you have specific requests, we’ll book you in at our favourite available lodges and hotels.
Here’s what to expect from your Rickshaw accommodation:
Standard accommodation - Category 3
Most of our Borneo family accommodation fits into our standard category. We value comfort and character over star ratings, but these properties would usually be 3*.
Examples include a comfortable city hotel in Kuching or a family-friendly beach resort on the Damai Peninsula.
In-Style accommodation - Category 4
If you like a little more luxury for your family holiday, even for just a night or two, then your travel specialist can arrange upgrades in a number of locations. These hotels will offer a lot of the same benefits as our standard choices but with an extra dash of style. Your travel specialist can talk you through the best places to upgrade your stay.
Simple accommodation - Category 2 (or 1)
In some places, we think that creating an unforgettable family experience makes it worth staying somewhere simpler a night or two. We’ll always make sure you’re comfortable, but your accommodation may lack the traditional hotel facilities you’d find elsewhere in your trip.
The best examples of this would be the rustic lodge accommodation in Bako National park, and staying in a tribal longhouse in Batang Ai
