Graffiti is such a dirty word. It immediately conjures up images of youths in hoodies tagging down dingy alleyways. Well, the graffiti adorning the walls of the streets of Valparaiso, Chile will make you see it in a whole different light.
In no particular order (I simply couldn’t choose between them), here are my Top 10 Valparaiso shots from my recent trip.
1. An incredible selection of colours that conveys the cultural mix of Spanish South American and native Mapuche people.
3. With its whimsical tone, this work of art is reminiscent of the children’s book illustrations (though perhaps not the content…)
5. Definitely one of my absolute favourites – I love they way the artist used the crack in the wall to create a divide in the painting. Not to mention the same use of turquoise as the nearby house!
9. Apparently by a very prolific artist. He always starts by painting the words across the whole background then gradually builds up the picture over them – I could look at this for hours!
10. Because it’s true!
